Our Boot Camp desk keeps this page for readers who want the reasoning and not just the verdict. The order of the sections follows the order of the decisions you actually have to make, so you can stop reading at the point where your own question is answered. Where the honest answer is that it depends, the page says so and then says what it depends on.

This page is kept at its original address; the material that stood here is listed in the section it belongs to.

How much has to sit behind one buy-in

Our own convention, not a law of the game: the multiplier is the number of buy-ins we think a format needs before variance stops being the deciding factor. Treat the multiplier as judgement and the arithmetic as arithmetic.

Reserve we would want behind a buy-in
Format	Buy-in $1	Buy-in $5	Buy-in $25	Buy-in $100
Cash game ×30	$30	$150	$750	$3,000
Sit-and-go ×50	$50	$250	$1,250	$5,000
Multi-table tournament ×100	$100	$500	$2,500	$10,000

Multipliers are this desk's own; the reasoning behind sizing a stake to a bankroll is in Bankroll.
