Private Coaching for Josh

September 28, 2009

Read this as a working note from our Boot Camp desk rather than as a sales page: there is nothing to sign up for at the end of it. The aim is that you leave knowing which questions to ask and which answers to distrust. Where the material comes from the site's own earlier years, it is kept as it was written and marked as such.

Hi Vanessa – I just wanted to let you know that your coaching is already paying off! In the past couple weeks, I’ve made a final table and made several deep runs in tournaments. I have played poker for several years now, but working with you has changed the way I look at No Limit Tournaments. I am seeing the game differently and finding ways to win pots I never would’ve won before, and I’m chipping up more consistently than ever. I think my previous style (solid, ABC tournament poker) would have occasionally landed me at a final table, but I needed cards to get there. Now, I feel like I have a legitimate chance to win every tournament I play, even if the cards aren’t breaking my way! Thanks again and it was great working with you! All the best! - Josh

How much has to sit behind one buy-in

Our own convention, not a law of the game: the multiplier is the number of buy-ins we think a format needs before variance stops being the deciding factor. Treat the multiplier as judgement and the arithmetic as arithmetic.

Reserve we would want behind a buy-in
Format	Buy-in $1	Buy-in $5	Buy-in $25	Buy-in $100
Cash game ×30	$30	$150	$750	$3,000
Sit-and-go ×50	$50	$250	$1,250	$5,000
Multi-table tournament ×100	$100	$500	$2,500	$10,000

Multipliers are this desk's own; the reasoning behind sizing a stake to a bankroll is in Bankroll.
